Kurinja leaves are a bit bitter in taste. Kurinja leaves are believed to reduce blood sugar level when consumed raw or in the form of lozenges (made from Kurinja extracts) or tea or mouthwash. It is believed to suppress the taste of sugar and therefore, the craving for sugar. In Japan, Kurinja leaves are consumed for weight loss. In Ayurvedic medicine, Kurinja leaves and extracts have been traditionally used for the treatment of eye diseases, allergies, constipation, cough, obesity etc. However, pregnant women and children are prohibited from taking Kurinja.
